Siri Can’t Speak Japanese Anymore

Only earlier this week Core Info reported on Siri being able to speak Japanese, an ability unknown to all. A brief updates to this report is that Apple have now changed the response Siri gives when asked “What languages do you speak?” Apple have realised the leak and have corrected it. When Siri is asked the same question, it just has mundane response of being able to speak English, German and French.

It seems that once again, Apple have released information about the upcoming iOS 5.1 update. We definitely expect Siri to be speaking Japanese soon and this is a fact. We could also possibly see Siri learning more languages in time for March 7, the rumoured date for the release of iPad 3 and iOS 5.1. These languages include the one stated on Apple’s websites, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

Other rumoured features for iOS 5.1 are the new slide to unlock setup and a new Notes app.

Siri Updates Forthcoming

After earlier news in the day that Apple were beginning to clamp down on the use of Siri on non-iPhone devices, new responses have been found when using Siri. Most notable when Siri is asked “What languages do you speak?” Siri’s new response includes that it has the ability to communicate in Japanese, a language not present in any Siri options.

This shows that we should see some potential Siri updates sometime soon with the launch of the next iPad to be a prime opportunity for Siri to not only expand its languages, with Mandarin Chinese and Russian also rumoured for the near feature, but we could also see the addition of much craved tasks such as “Read me my email” or “Open an app”.

Third-Party Siri Servers Cease

Many using Siri on non-iPhone 4S devices have reported difficulty in utilising their Siri server. This, however, has only been reported by some and others running the third-party server are facing no issues.

Currently, it is unsure whether these are Apple’s first steps to eliminating illegitimate users of their ‘indispensable’ beta functionality. Since the iPhone 4S jailbreak release on 20th January, Apple have taken no action on the ready availability of Siri to non-4S devices such as the iPod Touch and iPhone 4. We are all waiting for Apple to respond and this could well be Apple’s first attempt and we should expect more to follow.
